Contemporaneous reinvention of the traditional "Mas Provençal"
This extension project of an old stone house is also about the reorganisation of the existing indoor spaces. This project has been thought as an extension to the West end of the existing house. This extension has identical proportions to the existing building as a faithful reflection of the existing volumes. A stone gable wall is defining the new limits of the « mas », like a modern screen in between 2 “noble” walls. This box, built in metal structure and glass panels, is now covering the new living area. Connexion between the existing part and its extension is made thanks to a game of bridges, pattern of filled and empty, that create interesting perspectives and light effects linking the traditional part to the contemporaneous one. The new « type curtain » façade is reflecting the surrounding landscape like a mirror.
